Overview

Aims and Objectives
As stated in the Constitution and Bylaws of the Society, the main objectives are:
To provide a South African forum for collaboration between physicians, scientists, radiographers and other professional persons with a common interest in the field of nuclear medicine
To promote the practice and development of nuclear medicine through the accumulation and dissemination of scientific and technical information by means of meetings, courses and publications
To improve the status of nuclear medicine in South Africa through liaison with organizations with common interests, nationally and internationally.

Helping to establish the official recognition of Nuclear Medicine as a separate specialty by the Health Professional Council of South Africa [HPCSA]

Instrumental in establishing the African Association of Nuclear Medicine in 1998.

Establishing norms and criteria to be used in the accreditation of Nuclear Medicine facilities

Participating in the recurriculation of the course for the National Diploma in Radiography

Advising the IAEA through NECSA on AFRA (African Regional Co-operative Agreement) matters relating to Nuclear Medicine in South Africa
