Mrs Thea Eiselen

Thea Eiselen completed her MSc in Medical Sciences at Stellenbosch University in 2004. She is currently employed as a lecturer in Diagnostic as well as Nuclear Medicine subjects at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She is responsible for the academic and clinical training of radiography students both pre- and post graduation.

Ronell Meintjes
Ronell Meintjes

Ronell received her BRad qualification in 1983 and her Honours Degree in Nuclear Medicine in 1990 from UP. She has since worked as a Nuclear Medicine Radiographer in private practices in Pretoria for the past 16 years.

Having completed a Diploma in Tertiary Education 1992 at UP, she became a Tutor at the practice she was working at. Since 1993 to date, she has also been appointed every year as Moderator for Radiopharmacy for the first year students in Nuclear Medicine at the Wits Technicon.

She is currently still employed as a Nuclear Medicine Radiographer in private practice.

Dr O Knoesen
A scientist involved in nuclear medicine

Otto Knoesen obtained his B.Sc and Honns B.Sc from the University of the Orange Free State, his M.Sc (cum laude) from the University of Port Elizabeth and Ph.D from the University of Pretoria. Both research degrees focused on the chemistry of technetium and rhenium.
Otto started his professional career at the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa), specialising in radiopharmaceutical research and development, production and quality control. He recently moved to NTP Radioisotopes, a division of Necsa, where he is involved in the development of new radiopharmaceuticals and isotopes for diagnosis and therapy.

Greta Lange
Nuclear Medicine Physician

Greta Lange is a Nuclear Medicine Physician in private practice in Pretoria. She qualified at the University of Pretoria.

She works at Labuscagne and Partners Radiologists dealing with general Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT studies. She is also involved in the training of nuclear medicine radiographers.

She is married to Leon van Wyk and they have two little girls, Lané and Marle.

Prof Ellmann has been the Head of the department of Nuclear Medicine since August 2001.
Before this she was a senior specialist in Nuclear Medicine in the same department.
Prof Ellmann obtained her qualifications from Stellenbosch University. The title of her MSc thesis was: The excretion of pertechnetate through the stomach of the Chacma baboon.
She has been a member of the Nuclear Medicine department since 1981. Her clinical interests are in Nuclear Cardiology and tumour imaging using Nuclear Medicine techniques.

She is a member of a number of national and international Nuclear Medicine organizations. Presently she is co-opted member of the council of the South African Society of Nuclear Medicine. She serves as a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine of the USA's International Advisory Group and International Coordinating Committee of the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology.

She is also the President of the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology.
Prof Ellmann is involved in several International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) activities. She is appointed by the IAEA as an "expert" in Nuclear Medicine. She was the leader of audit teams which visited Nuclear Medicine facilities in Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Ghana. Prof Ellmann also was a member of the teams who compiled South Africa's Country Programme Framework for co-operation with the IAEA (Pretoria, South Africa, 1998), the document on the Harmonisation of Training Standards for Technologists in Africa (Bloemfontein, South Africa, 1999) and the Thematic Health Programme for Africa (Sousse, Tunisia, 2000).

At present she is appointed by the SA Society of Nuclear Medicine as National Project Co-ordinator for Nuclear Medicine for matters of the African Regional Co-operative Agreement (AFRA) project of the IAEA.
Regarding other international activities, she is also appointed as a member of the Editorial Board of the newly formed World Journal of Nuclear Medicine. She serves as the Secretary-General of the African Association of Nuclear Medicine. Prof Ellmann has presented papers at numerous national and international meetings.
She is married to Braham van Zyl. They have three boys, Abrie, Herbie and Johan.
